“When I came into it, I didn’t realize it was something I needed.”

Being part of Alliance [LGBTQ+ student organization] was really great because I was able to meet a lot of other queer people in a queer-friendly space, which, when I came into it, I didn’t realize it was something that I needed. But once I was in it, it was very apparent that that was something important to me. It gave me the opportunity to meet lots of other people, and develop more social spheres and connections and friends. Being part of Alliance also gave me the opportunity to learn a lot more about social issues regarding the queer community, and I was able to learn a lot more about myself and who I was.

First coming into Valpo, I really didn’t know anything about transgender or what that was. But when I became part of Alliance, I was able to learn more about what that was, and all the different letters. And, as I started to learn more about them, I realized that that clicked a little more with me.
